3 Sets of Reals and Multiple Villains Feature in this Spectacular Production

Following the hugely successful Dark Knight, IGT has released a follow up based on the recent Batman movie series. This game is based on a single tall cabinet. You’ll see 4 progressive jackpots stacked up above the main screen.

3 sets of reels are in play, with the main set having 6 rows of symbols. Around these you will see the dark and brooding Gotham City. Either side of the main set of reels, you’ll find two of Batman’s key adversaries. On the left is ‘The Face’ and on the right the familiar sight of the Joker. Like the original, Michael Caine supplies voice-overs.

There is a lot of interplay between the 3 sets of reels. When you get stacked symbols lined up, these move onto the bigger main set. Things get even more interesting in the free spins, where wild stacks come into play.

3 Sets of Reels for the Price of One: Dark Knight Trilogy Setup

Having 3 sets of reels certainly keeps the game-play intense. Two of these show a regular 5×3 grid, and are to the left and right at the top of the screen. Below these are the main reels. These are larger. Not only physically bigger, they also have an extra reel – using a 6×3 grid.

A lot of the symbols are stacked, making multiple line wins possible. When you get 3 stacked symbols together in the top sets of reels, they move to the main set. There is then an animation, where either the Joker or the Face get involved. For example, the Face will blow green gas onto the reels. This will turn the stacked symbols wilds – often adding a multiplier. You’ll still need to line up the symbols to get a big win, though your chances are massively improved compared to regular spins.

Winning symbols show a selection of characters from the movies. You’ll want to hit Bruce Wayne as often as possible, and the Batman symbols again have the biggest prize. This time, playing card symbols are used for the lower prizes. This is a good move – this slot looks plenty intense enough without adding more detail!

Wheel Bonus

At random, a 3D wheel will appear on the right of the reels. This is seen edge on, as if you were viewing the outside of it. On this reel you will find cash prizes, which are determined by your spin amount. These can be big, though most of the time this feature will deliver a 1x to 5x win.

There are also wild symbols on the reels. While these do not transfer like the stacked character symbols, they are helpful in connecting wins.

Two Ways to Trigger the Super Stacked Free Spins

To get the 10 free spins, you’ll need to see a special Batman symbol on each of the 3 sets of reels, or get 6 individual bonus symbols on a single set.

The free spins involve special wild stacks. These are sticky on the two top sets of reels and will help generate extra wins there. Where they really come in useful is that they help you hit the 3 stacks of character symbols a lot more often. When you have 2 wild stacks, you will only need one more to get these moving from the top reels to the bottom ones.

When that happens, the entire 3 or 4-reel block becomes wild. One of the villains will then add a multiplier – giving you a shot at some super-big wins.

Intensive Animated Design

Having the voice of Michael Caine announcing your bonuses and big wins adds a surreal element to this game. It is almost out of place, keeping in mind the dark visuals and sinister villains that come to life on each side of the reels.

The effects when the stacks move are excellent. These come to life with purple (Joker) or green (Face) gasses, giving you a moment of anticipation before the wild multiplier is shown. Behind the reels are the best graphics of all. The top-down view of Gotham City has been brilliantly created.

Is The Dark Knight Trilogy Three Times as Good as the Original?

This is an excellent sequel, which has a completely different feel to the original Dark Knight slot. If anything, it is darker and a little more sinister. The game-play is excellent, as well as intense. That interaction between the 3 sets of reels can kick in on any spin.

There are fewer distinct bonus features this time around. IGT have made up for this by making the free spins game even more interesting. There is always the chance of a random progressive jackpot too. I recommend this slot for fans of the Batman series and look forward to the next instalment from IGT.
