Enter the Castle to Enjoy 4 Different Bonus Games
This slot takes you back to the times when knights, kings and queens ruled the land. Either side of the reels you will find an imposing castle. While you spin traditional minstrel style music plays, with fanfares for big wins. Graphics are quirky and cartoon-like. A knight, with only his huge nose visible beneath a helmet, plus a queen with overly red lips feature. This is not the newest game in terms of design – though it is entertaining and varied.
Triggering a bonus will take you to an archery picks game. Here you will shoot for one of 4 bonuses. These include a path-style game where you’ll try and reach the dragon’s treasure, free spins and 2 picks games.
Spin with the King: Game Setup
There is nothing retro about the setup. Medieval Money is a video slot, with 5 reels each showing 3 rows of symbols. You can’t adjust the number of win-lines – this is set at 20. You’ll be given a big choice of coin sizes, starting at just 1c per line.
Wild symbols are in play. These show a jester’s hat, along with the word ‘wild’. They only appear on the middle 3 reels, and so can’t create wins by themselves. Instead they will substitute for the other symbols (with the exception of the target bonus symbols), to create more wins.
Meet the Cast of Winning Symbols
Higher paying symbols are a cast of characters from medieval times. These are not the highest paying though. That accolade goes to the logo symbols. These show the letters ‘MM’. As well as the biggest prize, these symbols come stacked on the reels. This makes multi-line hits possible. If you do line up 5 of a kind, you’ll get 1,000 coins.
Next in line comes the King, who has a beard and a large nose. 5 of these are worth 300 coins. The queen, a large lady with very red lips, comes next. You’ll get 250 coins for 5 of those. A princess, crown tilted to one side, and a knight with a huge nose complete the higher paying symbols.
I like the design of the playing card filler symbols. These are made of weapons. Aces down to jacks provide the smaller wins.
Target Symbols and 4 Bonus Games
When you hit the first bonus symbol on reel 2, arrows shoot into it – with an accompanying sound effect. You need 3 to start the bonus games.
First, you go to a screen which is covered in archery targets. You pick one target, which reveals your bonus. Here are the 4 games:
Money Bags Picks Game: This is the simplest of the 4 bonuses. You see a pile of gold coins, and 3 large money bags appear on top. You have to pick one of these bags to reveal your prize.
Joust Free Spins: This bonus awards 7 free spins, which feature different symbols. Some are blue, others are red. There are knight symbols on reels 1 and 5. When you line up the knights on a row, a joust takes place. You will see the two knights charge at each other, and one will fall over, defeated. Whichever colour wins, the symbols on that row with his colour become wilds.
Spell Picker Bonus: Here you see a traditional wizard, once again with a big nose! He will offer you potions, which come with prizes of up to 1,000 coins. You get to keep the bonus or reject the potion and try again. You’ll get 5 options, before the final one is awarded.
Dragon Path Bonus: This is my favourite feature. It works in the same way as Rainbow Riches. You’ll see a winding path with many stones, over a dramatic rocky landscape. At the end of this path is a green dragon. To move, you spin a wheel on the bottom right of the screen. This moves you between 1 and 3 spots. Each move increases you win – as a multiplier of your total bet. If you get all the way to the end before hitting a skull on the wheel, you get 200x your spin amount.
Will Medieval Money Net You a Royal Fortune?
I enjoyed this game and will certainly be back for another spin. The setup is quirky and light-hearted, and the big-noses of the main characters add humour. Stacked high paying symbols give the base game some extra interest. It is the 4 bonus features which really bring this IGT slot to life. I recommend you play until you have enjoyed all 4 of them.
