Updated Classic Slots with Tons of Bonus Features
If you were expecting Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania to be a simple redesign of the original game, you are in for a pleasant surprise. This game maintains some of the graphic elements of the original Lobstermania – and then adds a lot of features. The graphics have also been updated. In version 2 you get dancing lobster symbols, a new design of the buoy bonus – and special golden lobsters too.
This slot also features progressive jackpots. These can be won on any spin, with special overlay symbols on the regular ones. The picks game has 3 nested games within it, where you pick exotic animals. There are now 2 types of wilds, and multipliers appear on special symbols.
More Lobster for Your Money: Game Setup
The original Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania had 3 rows of symbols on each of 5 reels. With version 2 you get 4 rows. This boost the number of win-lines to 40. To spin, you pay 1 coin per line, plus 20 extra coins for the features. Online players can use auto-spin, if you are playing in a live casino, you’ll need to click the buttons yourself.
2 Stacked Wild Symbols
There are 2 distinct wilds in play. Both show the slot logo, one in blue and the other orange. These symbols substitute for the regular symbols, though not the bonus ones – or for each other. Being stacked, you can trigger several win-lines on each spin.
Orange wilds have the single biggest prize. You’ll get 8,000 coins for lining up 5 of them. Blues are worth 1,000 coins for the same 5 of a kind.
Regular Winning Symbols
Only one symbol is new. This shows a wooden house, the type you might find on the shores of North American lobster fishing areas. The buoy, boat and lighthouse are all from the original game – though the graphics have been massively improved.
You’ll find more playing card symbols on Lobstermania 2. These go from aces all the way down to 8’s. There are no separate scatter symbols this time – though the other features more than make up for their absence.
Bonus symbols show the lobster in a yellow mac. You need 3 from the left on a win-line to trigger the bonus. You then get to pick which bonus you prefer. These are the buoy bonus game (a picks round), or Lucky Larry’s free spins.
Buoy Bonus with Nested Features
If you choose the picks game, you get a further choice to make – where to fish. The choices are Brazil, Maine or Australia. You’ll play the same game each time, though the background graphics are different. Each location has 2, 3 or 4 picks at random.
If you played the original Lobstermania, you’ll find the next part of this game familiar. You see lots of coloured buoys, in front of a boat. A fisherman stands ready to reel in your catches. You pick all your buoys, and then the fishing begins. Each lobster retrieved from the pot wins cash and gets a ‘cheesy’ comment from the fisherman. If you got 4 picks, your prizes can go much higher than for 2 or 3.
Golden Lobsters Sub-Game
Sometimes, the fisherman will find a golden lobster. This triggers one of 3 simple picks games. Which one depends on which location you chose to fish at. There is kangaroo game (you choose from 6 kangaroos), an octopus game (choose treasure chests) and a pelican bonus. As a twist, you’ll get the choice of accepting the prize you picked – or picking again to see if you can do better.
Lucky Larry’s Free Spins
You only get 5 free spins if you choose this bonus. The setting changes to night-time, and the symbols have new designs. Game-play wise, this is the same as the base game. You can retrigger for 5 more spins with 3 of the mac-wearing lobsters on a win-line.
On reel 3 you will sometimes see multipliers attached to the regular symbols. These range from 2x through to 5x. Any win-line these are involved in get the multiplier – a welcome boost from the standard pay outs.
Lobstermania 2 Progressive Jackpots
Above the reels are 3 jackpot prizes. These are the ‘light trap jackpot’, the ‘full trap jackpot’ and the ‘mother load jackpot’. You can win one of them on any spin where a special jackpot symbol appears above a regular symbol. If you line up 3 on consecutive reels, you get the small prize – with the big prize for one on each reel.
Making Heads or (Lobster) Tails of Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 2
As upgrades to a classic game go, it is hard to imagine what IGT could have done better with this slot. The graphics look great, with plenty of small animations that maintain the character of the original symbols. The ‘Rock Lobster’ tune is still used as background music while the reels spin.
Add to this the stacked wilds, multiplier symbols, bonus games within bonus games, free spins and progressive jackpots – and you have a slot that will keep you entertained time after time.
